Affiliate Disclosure

How we earn commissions from product links.

Short version: some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

That does not mean every link is an affiliate link, and it does not mean a product gets recommended just because it pays. The goal is simple: be clear about how the site makes money so you can judge the advice with open eyes.

What an affiliate link means

An affiliate link is a tracked link to a product or service. If you use that link and complete a qualifying purchase, the retailer may pay us a commission.

Your price is typically the same either way. The main difference is that the retailer knows the referral came from this site.

How we approach recommendations

We write for first-time buyers and new homeowners who need practical tools, realistic budgets, and fewer expensive mistakes. That means we try to focus on what solves a real problem, who a product is actually for, and what tradeoffs matter.

We also try to say when you do not need to buy something yet. Sometimes the right answer is to wait, borrow, rent, buy used, or skip the upgrade entirely.

What this disclosure does and does not mean

  • It does mean we may earn money from some links on the site.
  • It does mean we want to be upfront about that.
  • It does not mean every product mentioned is sponsored.
  • It does not mean you should buy something just because we linked to it.
  • It does not mean a more expensive product is automatically better.
